I think I lost a recording

Start here, because in most cases nothing is lost.

The app cannot hear anything

Open the iOS Settings app, scroll to Tapedeck, and check that Microphone is on. If it is on and recordings are still silent, check that nothing else has taken over the microphone, and that no case or cover is sitting over the bottom microphone hole.

I paid for Pro and it is not showing

Open Settings inside Tapedeck and tap Restore purchase. The purchase belongs to your Apple Account, so it comes back on any device signed in to that account, with no login. If it still does not appear, make sure the device is signed in to the same Apple Account that made the purchase, then write to us with the date of the purchase.

How do I cancel the subscription

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. On your device: open the Settings app, tap your name at the top, tap Subscriptions, tap Tapedeck, then Cancel Subscription. The Pro features stay on until the end of the period you already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

How do I get a refund

Apple handles every refund for App Store purchases. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the purchase. If Apple refuses and you believe the app is at fault, write to us and we will look at it.

Getting recordings and transcripts out

Open a recording, tap the actions button, and choose Share or Export. Audio export is free. With Pro, a transcript can also be exported as plain text, Markdown, or SRT subtitles.

A transcript came out wrong

Transcription runs on your device using Apple's speech engine, which means it is private but also that it has no cloud model to fall back on. Accuracy drops with background noise, several people talking over each other, strong accents and unusual vocabulary. Recording closer to the speaker is the single biggest improvement available. If a transcript is badly wrong on clean audio, send us the details of the language and device and we will investigate.

Which languages are supported

Transcription uses the languages your device supports for on-device speech recognition, which depends on your iOS version and the language packs installed. If a language is missing, check Settings, then General, then Keyboard, then Dictation, and make sure the language is downloaded.

Privacy and legal

The privacy policy says exactly what is collected, which is very little. The terms of use cover the licence, the subscription and refunds.

Still stuck

Write to irfanbehic@gmail.com. Telling us your device model, your iOS version and what you did just before the problem gets you a useful answer much faster.
