Tapedeck
Terms of use
Tapedeck is licensed to you under Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. You can read it in full at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. The terms below sit alongside it and describe the subscription, what the app does, and what you are responsible for. Where the two disagree, Apple's agreement wins.
The licence
Buying or downloading Tapedeck gives you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as set out in Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. The app is licensed to you, not sold. Its code, design, name and artwork remain the property of İrfan Behiç Tırpancı.
Apple is not a party to these additional terms and has no responsibility for the app. Apple is, however, a third party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you.
The free app
Tapedeck is free to download, and the following is free permanently, with no time limit, no file count and no paywall in front of it: recording of any length, continuous autosave, crash recovery, playback, markers, folders, rename, title search, audio export, light and dark mode, the green theme, and your first transcript.
Tapedeck Pro and billing
What it is. Tapedeck Pro unlocks unlimited transcripts, search inside transcripts, export as text, Markdown or SRT, and three additional theme colours.
What it costs. Two options, shown on the pricing screen in the app before you buy anything:
- Pro, yearly: $29.99 per year, following a 7 day free trial offered through the App Store. This is an auto-renewing subscription.
- Pro, once: $59.99 as a single payment. It does not renew and never expires.
Prices shown are for the United States App Store. In other countries Apple sets the equivalent local price, and the exact amount is always displayed in the App Store purchase sheet before you confirm.
How renewal works. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, or at the end of the free trial. The subscription renews automatically at the same price for the same period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. If a free trial is offered and you buy the subscription before the trial ends, the unused part of the trial is forfeited.
Where it is managed. Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. You can view, change or cancel yours in the Settings app on your device, under your name, then Subscriptions.
No account. Pro is tied to your Apple Account, not to a Tapedeck account, because there is no such thing. Restore purchase in the app's Settings brings it back on any device signed in to the same Apple Account.
Cancelling and refunds
Cancel at any time in the Settings app, under your name, then Subscriptions, then Tapedeck. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the Pro features stay available until the end of the period you already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
All purchases go through the App Store, so refunds are handled by Apple and not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If a refund is refused and you think the app is at fault, write to us anyway and we will see what we can do.
Your recordings are yours
Everything you record, transcribe, name or write inside Tapedeck belongs entirely to you. It stays on your device, we never receive a copy, and we claim no rights over it whatsoever. See the privacy policy for the detail.
Because it is on your device and nowhere else, you are responsible for keeping it. Deleting the app deletes every recording with it, and there is no server copy for us to restore. If a recording matters, export it or keep an encrypted device backup.
Recording other people
Laws on recording conversations differ enormously between countries and, in the United States, between states. Some require the consent of everyone present. Complying with the law where you are is your responsibility, not ours, and Tapedeck gives you no permission or defence you would not otherwise have.
Tapedeck records through the device microphone only. It is not a call recorder and cannot record telephone calls.
Transcription accuracy
Transcription uses Apple's on-device speech recognition. It is good, and it is not perfect. Accents, crosstalk, background noise, technical vocabulary and poor microphone position all cost accuracy. Transcripts are provided as an aid and should not be relied on as a verbatim record for legal, medical, financial or any other consequential purpose without checking them against the audio.
Acceptable use
Do not use Tapedeck to break the law, to record people unlawfully, or to harass anyone. Do not reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract the source of the app, except to the extent the law expressly permits it despite this limitation.
Warranty and liability
Tapedeck is built to protect recordings, and that is the whole point of it. Even so, no software can promise that a device will not fail. The app is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind beyond what the law requires and what Apple's standard EULA provides, including any implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for lost recordings, lost data, lost profits, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be removed by contract, including under EU, UK or Turkish consumer law.
Changes and ending
These terms may change as the app changes. The date at the top changes with them, and a material change will be described in the release notes as well. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it. If you do not, stop using the app and, if you hold a subscription, cancel it.
The licence ends if you break these terms, and it ends whenever you delete the app.
Governing law
These additional terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, without affecting any mandatory consumer protection you enjoy in your own country of residence, and without affecting Apple's own agreement with you, which has its own governing law.
