BackmarkPrivacy Policy
Backmark has no accounts and no server of its own. Your collection, photos and notes stay on your iPhone. The only thing that ever leaves it is what is needed to identify an item, and only after you agree.
What stays on your iPhone
Every scan, its photo, the result, your notes, your folders and the names you give items are stored on the device. They are not uploaded to us, because there is no account and no database of ours to upload them to. Deleting a scan or an item removes its photo from the device. Deleting the app removes everything.
What is sent to identify an item
To identify an item, the app sends the photo you took and any details you typed to Google's Gemini model through Firebase AI Logic on Google Cloud. Location data is removed from the photo before it is stored or sent.
Before the first scan the app explains this and asks for your permission. Nothing is sent until you agree. You can withdraw the permission at any time in Settings, under Photos and AI, and the next scan will ask again.
Under Google Cloud's Service Specific Terms, Google does not use this content to train or fine-tune its models. Google may keep it for a limited time to detect abuse. See Google Cloud Service Specific Terms.
Anonymous usage statistics
The app sends anonymous product events (for example that a scan started, or that a result was saved) to PostHog, so that it can be improved. These events never contain your photos, item names, makers, mark text, notes, folder names, values or searches.
There is no advertising, no tracking across apps or websites, and no identifier used for tracking. The app never asks for tracking permission because nothing tracks.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by Apple. Backmark uses RevenueCat to check whether a purchase is active. Your payment details never reach the app or the developer.

Nothing else is collected. No location, no contacts, no health data, no identifiers for tracking.
Children
Backmark is made for adults who buy, sell, inherit or research antiques. It is not directed to children and is not intended for them.
Your choices
- Withdraw the permission to send photos, in Settings, under Photos and AI.
- Delete any scan or saved item in the app, which removes its photo from the device.
- Delete the app, which removes everything it stored.
